EVERY YEAR, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES PROCLAIMS THE BIRTHDAY OF THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE AS "EDUCATION & SHARING DAY, USA".
To emphasize the vital role of education in society, the United States annually marks "Education and Sharing Day U.S.A." Established in 1978 by a joint Congressional resolution, Education Day U.S.A. focuses on the very foundation of meaningful education: instructing our youth in the ways of morality and ethics, and teaching them an appreciation for divine inviolable values.

American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad) has been closely coordinating the annual Education and Sharing Day, USA, with the White House, Congress and the Administration, since the first such Proclamation was issued by the President in that year.
Through the years, this Proclamation has been a great opportunity to focus on the centrality of education in American life, and to recognize the monumental efforts in improving education and society by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of blessed memory. The date is chosen every year to coincide with 11 Nissan, the date on the Hebrew calendar which marks his birth.
Prominent dignitaries including the President, Vice President, Secretary of Education, other cabinet members, Leadership and Members of Congress have all participated in the celebrations marking this special day.
Special events have also been held in connection with Education and Sharing Day by governors, mayors, county executives and school boards across the US, many issuing similar proclamations of their own.
THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory (1902-1994), the seventh leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty, is considered to have been perhaps the most influential Jewish personality of modern times. To hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of sympathizers and admirers around the world, he was -- and still is, despite his passing -- "the Rebbe," undoubtedly, the one individual more than any other singularly responsible for stirring the conscience and spiritual awakening of world Jewry.

From the moment the Rebbe arrived in America in 1941, his brilliance at addressing himself to the following ideal became apparent: He would not acknowledge division or separation. Every Jew -- indeed every human being -- has a unique role to play in the greater scheme of things and is an integral part of the tapestry of G‑d's creation.

For nearly five of the most critical decades in recent history, the Rebbe's goal to reach out to every corner of the world with love and concern has unfolded dramatically. No sector of the community has been excluded -- young and old; men and women; leader and layman; scholar and laborer; student and teacher; children, and even infants.

The Rebbe had an uncanny ability to meet everyone at their own level -- he advised Heads of State on matters of national and international importance, explored with professionals the complexities in their own fields of expertise, and spoke to small children with warm words and a fatherly smile.
